Given the current political reality in which the Republican majorities of congress and the heavily stacked judiciary are preventing holding Musk accountable to his unlawful and reckless incursions into the operations of federal agencies, one of the few recourses available to a disgusted public is economic boycott.
Musk leaves himself open to this by entering government with CEO titles and large investment stakes in his business empire.
Tesla represents a particular vulnerable target for a number of reasons:
- A central pillar to Musk’s wealth status and power
- Is driven by consumer choices in a high cost product with a growing competition of alternatives, and where even small shifts in demand can erode profitability.
- The primary consumers of electric vehicles are more likely to be politically left or moderate liberal and more likely concerned about environmental sustainability and GHG emmisions driving climate change, and be opposed to reactionary sweeping cuts to government services and deregulation of industries.
- Tesla is an international brand. With the current upheavals of U.S. politics and betrayals of diplomatic alliances, and Musk’s personal meddling into the elections of other nations on behalf of extreme right wing parties, he has become even more toxic than he is in the U.S. in some parts of Europe.
